On the first Saturday in May, a mild and shower free afternoon, the West Barrier Bar Park held a community picnic and general good times get together. Kite fliers enjoyed a brisk south wind off the bay (and at least one kite went for an unexpected swim), a ceremonial tree planting took place with Phil MacArthur planting and Bonnie Bridson supervising, and approximately 200 hot dogs and hamburgers were consumed. A small flotilla of kayaks floated in, and the local Boy Scout troop helped provide food and general support and energy. A nature walk and a very well manned music jam rounded out a fine spring day at “the bar" attended by several hundred folk.

The West Barrier Bar park now has several new picnicking areas and tables and is open for business. Take a stroll, enjoy the lake and the bay and enjoy the space of spring.
