From Bonnie Bridson of Fair Haven's Fly By Night Cookie Co.
Dear Fellow Bar Tenders ( and other interested parties) This end of season update is to Congratulate Everyone for their involvement in the betterment of the West Barrier Bar Park. Much progress has been made since we came so close to losing it to development. The hiring of the summertime steward and placing of trash cans, funded by combined efforts of Village of Fair Haven and town of Sterling seems to have fulfilled the primary goals of the Barrier Bar Committee-free, clean and safe. The West Barrier Bar Book Nook was an astonishing success and required zero labor. Books arrived, were taken the donation jar filled up (several times) netting $1200. To that we added $170 collected at Fantasy Fashion Witches Parade. No reason why we can't do it again next year. Present plans for the park include some lad management. There are some invasive plant problems, grape vines are damaging some good trees , and an area along the bay will be mowed to create a pleasant picnic area with tables and a grill or two. The stones have been rearranged to create a circular drive and prevent driving on the beach. A suggestion is to start 08 with a community picnic-games?music? Sounds like fun. Our official status as a non-profit of Owasco Flats Nature Reserve is in doubt. Jean Siracusa is no longer head nor a member. As we had only her verbal assurance that we were covered by their umbrella it's probably time for us to take steps to apply in our own name. This however, is not something I am willing to tackle personally. Lawyers and rigid structured Roberts Rules of Order make me scream, but if any of you are willing... Again a Huge Thank you for help and support. Please call (947 5588) or stop by with ideas or suggestions and when you've got a little free time take a walk on the West Side. |
